About the Unit
Unit Overview
Northern Border University, through its successive strategic plans, seeks to support scientific research and provide all possible means to achieve knowledge production, stimulating its members toward creativity, innovation, and invention through the use of essential equipment, supporting knowledge resources, and making distinguished investments in human and financial resources. all of which will positively reflect on the advancement of the university and its researchers. In light of the university’s efforts to strengthen the connection between inventors of all backgrounds and specializations with their university, preserving and protecting their rights, informing them of their obligations toward it, and believing in the necessity of organizing and enhancing procedures related to intellectual property rights protection, and stemming from the need of inventors and creative thinkers both within and outside the university for an organizational umbrella to sponsor and support them, the idea of establishing the Intellectual Property and Patents Office emerged to serve as an incubator through which all forms of support can be obtained for registering, protecting, marketing, and converting patents into value added products, and to serve as an effective tool in strengthening intellectual property rights protection both inside and outside the university, thereby enhancing trust and reflecting the sustainable knowledge development of Northern Border University in line with the aspirations and objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
Unit Objectives
The Patents Unit at Northern Border University aims to achieve the following:
Establishing suitable facilitations to encourage inventors to expedite the registration of their inventions through easy and streamlined procedures.
Working to convert new innovations into real commercial and industrial products.
Contributing to technology transfer, localization, local development, and building the knowledge economy in the Kingdom in accordance with Vision 2030.
Working to promote respect for intellectual property rights inside and outside the university, and proposing the necessary policies and procedures for this purpose.
Spreading a culture of innovation and invention inside and outside the university, and working to build a generation of researchers and inventors across various scientific and technical fields.
Beneficiaries of the Unit
All inventors affiliated with Northern Border University, whether faculty members and those of similar status, employees, collaborators, visiting professors, or male and female students, if they reached their invention while performing their professional or academic duties, or due to financial, technical, or material support provided directly by the university or through grants and funding programs, cooperation agreements concluded by the university with third parties, research chairs, or through the use of university equipment, tools, laboratories, or incubators, or if they reached their invention through their own purely independent efforts.
Non university affiliated inventors, whether Saudi or otherwise, residents or non residents of the Kingdom, may benefit from the center’s services in accordance with the conditions set by the university.
